The ZOS Hybrid Location Solution
|
|
|
| The Hybrid Location Solution makes location management simple, universal and cost effective for carriers, aggregators and developers. |
How does it work?
The Hybrid Location Solution uses all available device sensor inputs−GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi and cell tower location (Cell ID) −as well as 3rd party data to ascertain device location. It can also generate other types of geo-contextual data such as speed and proximity −- particularly useful in the latest context aware mobile applications.

The Hybrid Location Solution is comprised of two primary architecture components; the cloud-based ZOS Server, and the ZOS Discrete Agent (ZDA), a lightweight software module that runs on the handset or connected device that enables server communications.

The ZDA enables registered/opted-in mobile devices to act as location and context-aware sensors for the platform and unlocks ZOS’ cloud-based device interactivity and tracking. The ZDA offers flexible integration options to suite a wide variety of developer needs. The ZDA can be deployed as a compact standalone application or embedded in 3rd party applications. It can be downloaded from major mobile platform app stores, preloaded by carriers and provisioning companies, or via enterprise over-the-air push on Blackberry devices.
Benefits
Leveraging the enormous computing power of the cloud and multiple sources of contextual data provides a variety of advantages over other industry solutions.
- Accuracy – The Hybrid Location Solution provides industry leading accuracy with up to a 20X improvement over network-only solutions.
- Availability – Hybrid positioning provides high availability (or yield) for device location determination by leveraging the strengths and mitigating the weaknesses of location data sources, with the ability to fall back to 3rd party location databases or carrier network location.
- Scalability and Reliability – The cloud-hosted server architecture provides the scalability and reliability to handle complex location calculations for large enterprise use cases.
- Device Battery Management – The Hybrid Location Solution optimizes battery life by prioritizing contextual data based on individual use case requirements. Optional geo-contextual triggers minimize location updates.
- Unified Platform – Mobile location management is provided for nearly any industry or use case, ensuring a consistent user experience.
- Universal Device Support – The Hybrid Location Solution supports a broad range of mobile devices and operating systems, including smartphones, tablets, and M2M devices and sensors. ZOS is certified on Apple iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Phone.
- Location for 3rd Party Systems – ZOS’ server-based architecture can provide location as a service to 3rd party systems.
- Simplified Integration – APIs and SDKs simplify the provision of device location for carriers, aggregators and developers bringing context awareness to new applications and systems
